Nursery enjoyed a wonderful trip to Jarrow Library, listening to some Winter themed stories and exploring the beautiful books on offer. They chose a favourite book, looking at the illustrations with their peers and grown-ups, and then scanned their book at the machine to take home.
In order to develop prepositional language, spatial awareness and reasoning, the children were encouraged to explore their 6 bricks. They closed their eyes and selected a colour.
They were encouraged to talk about the colour, and used mathematical vocabulary to explore similarities and differences between their brick and the brick chosen by their peers.
They built a tower, exploring the position of the different colours within their build. They were then challenged to remember a 2 and 3 colour sequence, building a matching 2 and 3 colour tower.
We were amazed how observant they were and how well they made comparisons between the different towers built.
We are delighted to receive a Forest School Level 3 Award!
Forest school is loved by the children and an amazing learning platform!
Nursery was filled with lots of excitement this morning when a very special visitor arrived The children helped to find the missing eggs and were rewarded with a very tasty treat
Thank you to all of our Nursery parents and carers for attending our stay and play events. It was lovely to share our outdoor learning with you
Some of our lovely nursery children enjoying the outdoor area today.
We had den building, car washing and exploring how to roll large objects down the hill and push them back up again!!
This half term, our focus at forest school has been on identifying birds and how to look after them. We started by making a bird hide, using the binoculars to look for birds on the school site. Every week we have reinforced the importance of looking after the birds in the Winter and made various different bird feeders.
As part of our exploration work, Nursery took part in a local visit to the Post Office. Whilst walking there, we drew attention to the key features of their local community, including road names, homes and the different shops to visit.
When arriving at the Post Office, the children weighed, checked the size of their special letters and then posted them.
What a beautiful day for our first visit to forest school. Our main focus has been on developing exploration skills, establishing rules and boundaries whilst on the site and continuing with our work on seasonal change.
Forest school has so many benefits. During each session the children are developing:
-motivation
-empathy
-social skills
-independence
-confidence
-physical skills including the development of both fine and gross motor skills
-problem solving and risk taking skills
-resilience
-knowledge and understanding of the world around them
Most importantly lots of fun!
