Today in Year 4s science lesson the children moved on to investigating the effects more batteries or bulbs had on the brightness of the bulbs. The children planned and carried out the experiment independently. They used their knowledge of circuits to check why things werent working and worked well as a team to share responsibilities and solve problems.
We made lovley community links with Calf Close residential home last year when pupils from our choir visited the residents to sing Christmas songs.
This year the children participated in the Hearts for Home project. Each child designed a heart with a personal message of kindness or Seasons greeting!
Today members of our school council, delivered the hearts to our friends and wished them a Happy Christmas!
Today in Year 4 we have been learning about the different layers of soil. The children loved seperating the soil into its 5 different layers, looking closely at it through a microscope (we found a worm) and carrying out an experiment which will allow us to see all 5 layers for ourselves inside our jars.
Children from Valley View and Hedworthfield Primary Schools produced some stunning art work to commerate Remembrance Day 2020.
The art work was placed at the Cenotaph in Monkton Village.
We will remember them.
We had a lovely day at Jarrow Hall today….the sun even came out! We learnt how the Anglo-Saxons used animals, listened to a story about Beowolf, spent time in a replica Anglo-Saxon house and handled real artefacts from the past!
Year 2 have had a fantastic few weeks at the beach, despite some unpredictable weather. We have learnt lots about our local environment. We have learned about human and physical features, rock pools and their creatures as well as how to look after our beach.
To begin our Stone Age topic, we spent the day at Jarrow Hall. We learnt how to build and light a fire, how to create a framework to clean and stretch leather, how to make axes for use as tools and weapons, and created our own artwork on rocks.
We created natural portraits using materials we gathered on a walk around the school grounds.
We created some beautiful displays. One themed around Remembrance Day and one using our fantastic Cave Art.

We have done lots of amazing Maths work using a variety of equipment. We even did some of it on our desks – don’t tell Mrs Jeynes! Shh!
