Year 6 started Farm School this week. They were introduced to all of the animals including Sausage and Bacon two enormous pigs !
The children loved this experience and are hoping to persuade Mrs Jeynes to enrol some animals into our school !

Year 5 and 6 have made a wonderful start to maths this year: we have been thoroughly enjoying revising our understanding of place value. We have used number discs and diagrams to practise partitioning numbers in lots of different ways. We have also been outside finding number bonds to 10,000 and 1 million in the sunshine. We can now find our ‘number partner’ in 2 mins 47 seconds! Maths is so much fun!
Parents and Carers joined their children for an afternoon helping bees, butterflies and other insects. Everyone planted wildflowers to help the school grounds for nature, they then made a recycled butterfly feeder, plant pot and hanging basket full of butterfly friendly flowers to take home.
Thank you to everyone who took part and to West Boldon Lodge for working with us.
Look at our baby chicks hatching !
The children are learning all about plants in gardening club. They have been working very hard planting flowers around the school grounds and sowing seeds in the Hedworthfield vegetable plot.
This term year 5 and 6 have been learning about fossils, evolution and inheritance. We investigated our own fossils including a plesiosaur’s vertebrae and a mammoth’s molar. After observing, we began to hypothesise about the lives of these pants and animals. We also had a fascinating trip to the Hancock museum where we learned all about how animals adapt to their environment. We loved looking at the skulls and thinking about what they tell us about human evolution.
What a day Year 6 children had at Nissan. They had a tour of the training college and worked together to build their Lego cars in a mini production line. Each child left with a goody bag and some super facts. Did you know a car is produced every 59 seconds? Thank you to Nissan for making it a fun day!
