Hearts for Homes

17th December 2020Cathryn Henderson

We made lovley community links with Calf Close residential home last year when pupils from our choir visited the residents to sing Christmas songs.

This year the children participated in the Hearts for Home project. Each child designed a heart with a personal message of kindness or Seasons greeting!

Today members of our school council, delivered the hearts to our friends and wished them a Happy Christmas!

Stone Age DT Homes

20th October 2020Cathryn Henderson

As part of our Stone Age topic, the children first decided to make a Paleolithic, Mesolithic or Neolithic home. They thought carefully about the materials that they would need and drew their design, concentrating on the features that would be evident in each home. They then worked collaboratively to make their home using lots of techniques and working efficiently with each. We were over the moon with their creative attempts.

Stone Age workshop at Jarrow Hall

20th October 2020Cathryn Henderson

The children in Year 3 were transported back in time to the Stone Age where they took on the role of a ‘Hunter Gatherer’. They used joining techniques to make a stick frame to represent when the hunters used to stretch the animal skin. Next they went on a woodland walk, looking for foods to gather, and then made a stone axe to practise their hunting skills. They also used the charcoal from the fire to complete some cave art.

School Council Trip to the Town Hall

8th November 2019Cathryn Henderson

Our newly elected school council from Valley View and Hedworthfield were welcomed by the Deputy Mayor for a tour of the Town Hall in South Shields this week.

The children learned about the history of the Town Hall, they created their own school crest, they participated in a very challenging question time and took a vote on whether to ban homework or not !

It was a great visit, our school council were amazing ambassadors for our schools.

Thank you so much to the Town Hall staff, Deputy Mayor and Councillors who made us feel so welcome.
