Bible Comes Alive
Resources Base 2 and Year 4 children visited Boldon Independent Methodist Church for a Bible Comes Alive event. They were treated to a range of different stories from the Bible, told by the characters themselves. They also took part in singing, dancing and a quiz, before finishing their visit off with juice and a biscuit!
Stone Age Lady
Resource Base 2, Year 3 and Year 4 children were lucky to receive a visit from a Stone Age lady, who told them all about life during the Stone Age. They were able to dress as Stone Age people and handle artefacts that would have been used at the time. It really brought the subject to life and was a fabulous start to their topic!
St Nicholas’ Church visit
Resource Base 2, Year 3 and Year 4 children visited St Nicholas’ Church, to listen to Father Raymond telling them more about their RE topic, ‘Jesus as the Light of the World’. They also learnt about the events of advent and looked at the signs of advent that can be found in a Christian church.
Bible Comes Alive
Year 3, 4 and LU2 had a wonderful outing to Beamish this half term. As our topic is the Jarrow March, we decided to discover what it was like for men and women living during the terrible poverty and unemployment of the 1930’s. We re-enacted the Jarrow Crusade which took place between 5th and 31st October 1936. Around 200 men (or “Crusaders” as they preferred to be referred to) marched from Jarrow to London, carrying a petition to the British government requesting the re-establishment of industry in the North East. We marched around Beamish waving our banners and demanding jobs for the folks of Jarrow! It was a wonderful experience as we gained support from the people of Beamish. After our march we looked around the old fashioned town and experienced life on the trams and buses of the time. It was an exciting day!
