Year 5 using concrete representations of bar models to support converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers. We knew that we had to look at the denominator to help us understand how many parts were in each whole.
Year 5 investigating different representations of fractions to strengthen their understanding.
Year 5 guided reading group enjoying classic texts and practising reading with fluency and expression. We know to check for meaning as we are reading out loud and self correct if we need to.
Maths club: developing strategic thinking and problem solving skills through learning how to play chess.
Today in Year 4s science lesson the children moved on to investigating the effects more batteries or bulbs had on the brightness of the bulbs. The children planned and carried out the experiment independently. They used their knowledge of circuits to check why things werent working and worked well as a team to share responsibilities and solve problems.
A Great day in Year 4 as the children successfully made circuits using lots of different components.
We made lovley community links with Calf Close residential home last year when pupils from our choir visited the residents to sing Christmas songs.
This year the children participated in the Hearts for Home project. Each child designed a heart with a personal message of kindness or Seasons greeting!
Today members of our school council, delivered the hearts to our friends and wished them a Happy Christmas!
Today in Year 4 we have been learning about the different layers of soil. The children loved seperating the soil into its 5 different layers, looking closely at it through a microscope (we found a worm) and carrying out an experiment which will allow us to see all 5 layers for ourselves inside our jars.
