Year 2 from Valley View, Hedworthfield and Additional Resource Base 1 enjoyed a ‘ Great Fire of London’ day. They baked bread in the Pudding Lane Bakery, built Tudor houses, drew London fore landscapes with pastels, sang songs, toasted marshmallows in our fire pit. They then watched as the Tudor houses were set alight to act out the burning city.
We are very proud to share pictures of PC Talbut presenting one of our pupils with a well deserved Citizenship Award for his participation in the Eco Bricks project under way in school.

Parents and staff donated cakes and the School successfully raised £515.03 for MacMillan Cancer support.
Year 1 and Language Unit 1 visited St Nicholas’ church to understand why it is so important to Christians.
Father Raymond talked about all the wonderful things the church provides for the Christian community. The children also looked around the different parts of the church and identified a range of features.
The children enjoyed exploring the church and finding out what it has to offer the local community.
Year 3, 4 and LU2 had a wonderful outing to Beamish this half term. As our topic is the Jarrow March, we decided to discover what it was like for men and women living during the terrible poverty and unemployment of the 1930’s. We re-enacted the Jarrow Crusade which took place between 5th and 31st October 1936. Around 200 men (or “Crusaders” as they preferred to be referred to) marched from Jarrow to London, carrying a petition to the British government requesting the re-establishment of industry in the North East. We marched around Beamish waving our banners and demanding jobs for the folks of Jarrow! It was a wonderful experience as we gained support from the people of Beamish. After our march we looked around the old fashioned town and experienced life on the trams and buses of the time. It was an exciting day!
Reception Parents and carers joined us in class to learn about how we teach reading through phonics.
They took part in a phonics lesson, supporting their children with a new letter sound. They then explored the classroom to apply their phonics through play.
