Creative Week February 2016

As part of creative week the foundation stage joined together to celebrate Chinese New Year. We had lots of fun finding out about other cultures and traditions. We designed and made our own Chinese dragon after investigating which materials and colours were commonly used. We decided to make our dragon as colourful and eye catching as possible using a mixed range of media. We then listened to Chinese music and performed our own dragon dance to each other by moving the dragon up and down. It was lots of fun! We also made our own dragon puppets and played musical instruments as we listened to traditional Chinese music. Chung Hey Fat Choy!!

Our New Outdoor Area:

We have created a fantastic new outdoor learning environment for the children to investigate. The children were an integral part of the building process and regularly observed and talked to the builders to extend their real life experiences. They demonstrated a purpose for writing by deciding to make ‘safety’ and ‘construction’ signs. They then hung these signs around the construction site to ‘help the builders’ and make the rest of the school aware of the appropriate safety procedures.

Stabiliser Free Sessions:

Reception children were very lucky to be given the opportunity to take part in stabiliser free sessions with the Sustrans Project. The children brought their own bike in from home and were taught how to ride it without their stabilisers. We had lots of fun and the children showed a lot of determination and perseverance. It was a pure delight to see children riding their bike unaided by the end of the session.
